Using Trinket

Creating a Trinket

Click "New Trinket" from the dropdown menu in the navigation bar and select a language. You can write code in the editor and click "Run" to see the output.

Saving Your Work

Sign up for an account to save your trinkets. Once logged in, your work is automatically saved.

Sharing Trinkets

Each trinket has a unique URL you can share. You can also embed trinkets in other websites using the embed code.

Adding students to your course

On this server students cannot sign up on their own: accounts can only be created by M&I instructors, and by people whose email address is already listed as a student in a course. So the roster comes first.

Open your course and go to Users. There are two ways to add people:

  1. Add Students — paste a column of student email addresses, straight from a spreadsheet or a campus roster export. Do this before the first class. Your students then go to this site and create an account using exactly that email address; if your campus uses Google accounts, they should choose Sign in with Google. Anyone whose address you have not added will not be able to create an account.
  2. Add Trinket User — for someone who already has an account here, add them by username. Useful for a colleague, a TA, or a student who signed up through another course.

Coming from trinket.io? The old self-service invite link is not available on this server. Pasting the roster above takes its place.

Creating Courses

Trinket allows educators to create interactive coding courses with embedded trinkets, text, and media.

  1. Go to your library and click "New Course"
  2. Add topics and pages to organize your content
  3. Embed trinkets for interactive code examples
  4. Share your course URL with students

Self-Hosting & Development

Trinket is open source software. For information on running your own instance, see the GitHub repository.
